Description:

A module about how social influences affects people's thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Topics covered include aggression, prejudice, etc.

Readings are quite heavy, but a lot of the content are very applicable to real-life situations, so it is easy to understand.
Lecture content can mostly be found in the textbook, but interesting videos will be shown during the lectures, which can help you to understand the content better, so it is good to turn up for lectures.
Textbook is a MUST because exams will test on content in the textbook. Lecture notes is definitely inadequate.

Tutorial involves group presentations and discussions. Each group will have to present on an assigned journal article on a particular week, and submit a summary of the article. Since the journal articles will be tested in finals, it will be good to turn up for tutorials to attend the presentations as reading the journal articles can be quite taxing.

Group project involves literature review and analysis of a real-life phenomenon about a chosen theory. A report have to be submitted and presentation is required during the last tutorial.

For the exams, there will be a lot of application questions. Thus, understanding of the content is more important than memorising.

  1. Hi, may I know how would you rate this module? In terms of its content (interesting?) and the corresponding amount of effort put in each week?

I am considering adding this module as my UE, but am afraid it is very content heavy.

Thank you for your time! :D

    1. I'm not very sure how to give it a rating to make it more objective. But personally, i find this module the most interesting one among all the psychology modules i've taken. It is content-heavy with theories, as with all other psych modules, but because it is very relatable to life, it make things sort of easier. Maybe you can use the social psych related chaps in your HP1000 as a gauge? If you wanna choose a psych module as a UE, i would recommend this over the others in terms content.
Projects-wise, it was heavy for my semester. But ultimately it still depends on the prof. I'm not sure if they make any changes to it.

    1. Hi. I can't remember the title of the book, and they might have changed the textbooks since I took it 2 years ago. However, you can check Carousell and see whether there are people who took it last year and are selling theirs. Same goes for HP2300 :)

  4. HI! May I know if I can skip the lecture and read up on my own? Like is it advisable? Because some prof tend to explain more stuff that can be tested
